1919-2015

Dallas- Wilma Gertrude Long, 96, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

Wilma was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late William Oscar "Will" and Rena Abernethy Long. She attended grammar school in High Shoals and graduated from Dallas High Shoals in 1936. She was a lifelong and very dedicated, faithful and active member and leader of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dallas. She was a loyal employee of Burlington Industries and received a certificate in 1970 for 30 years of service and retired from McBess in 1981.

Wilma was a gifted seamstress as well as talented in numerous art and craft projects. Her handmade items were enjoyed by her family, friends and acquaintances. She was also active in many handmade projects that became keepsakes for her church. She was a dedicated daughter, sister and friend. All of her nieces and nephews, 2nd and 3rd generation cousins reaped the benefits of her love and talents.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Dennis Carroll Long, David Parr Long and nephews, Ronald David Long and Eric Channing Long and sister-in-law Janice Hull Long.

Survivors include nieces and nephews; Carole Long Sherrill, Dr. Denice Long Stewart, Paul Lindbergh Sims, Angela Sims Hayden, Patricia Long Brenner, Lisa Long Martin, Jeffrey Parr Long, and great niece, Jacqueline Long McCarter


Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, January 2nd at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 531 Hardin Road, Dallas with Reverend Jonathan Schnibben officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery

Pallbearers will be Joey Sherrill, Dr. John Brenner, Bruce Martin, Jeffrey Long, Tayler Long, Cameron Long, Clay Sherrill, Kyle Martin and Chad Hayden

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 531 Hardin Road, Dallas, North Carolina 28034
