1931-2017

Gastonia -Walter James "Bill" Barlowe, Jr., 86 passed away peacefully on May 15, 2017 at the Robin Johnson House.

He was born in Dallas to the late Walter James Barlowe, Sr. and Artie Lee Hoyle Barlowe. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his sister June B. Conner.

Bill was a member of Armstong Presbyterian Church which merged with Southminster Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force. He retired as co- owner of W.J. Barlowe and Sons Tank Service. Bill also served on the Gastonia Fire Department and was an original member of County Rural Police. He was owner & operator of Mister "B's" Convenience Store for many years; and later owned and operator of Barlowe Motors.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jane Gordon Barlowe; his children Jeffrey D. Barlowe and wife Lynn, Robert J. Barlowe and wife Cara; grandchildren Ashley B. Whitlock, Robert J. Barlowe, II and Tyler Stramaglia; great grandsons, Jacob Whitlock and Bentley Barlowe; brother, Jerry C Barlowe and wife Linda; two nieces Beth Barlowe and Sherry Newman

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with CH. (LTC) Joey T. Byrd officiating.
Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Mausoleum B with Military Honors
