Gastonia - Vivian Houser Smith, 75, joined our heavenly Father peacefully on April 29, 2016 at the Robin Johnson House surrounded by her loving family.

Vivian was born in Gaston County on September 18, 1940 to Belle McCarter Sanders and the late Sidney Houser.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Stewart.

Vivian will be remembered as a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother and friend. She was friendly, outgoing and her contagious smile could always light up a room. Family and friends were Vivian's passion and delight. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God. Vivian was a realtor for many years in Gaston County.

Left to cherish her memories include her loving husband of almost 60 years, Verlon "Bud" Smith; son, Jeff Smith and wife Cheryl; daughters, Monica Stewart, Jacqueline Trigg and husband Preston and Gia Womack and husband Chuck; her mother, Belle Sanders; grandchildren, Jared Smith, William and Jack Trigg, Bailey Stewart and Caroline Womack; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister, Karen Mitchell.

A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel of Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1st at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Lee Russell and Pastor Leroy Easler officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Garden of Honor Section with the releasing of the doves.
