Gastonia – Vergie Lee Grant Walls, 97, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House.
She was born in Swain County on March 18, 1924, to the late Nellie and Edward Harrison Grant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Arvel J. Walls, and her siblings.
Vergie was a faithful member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church for many years. She loved her church and her church family. Vergie retired from Pinnacle Electric Company after many years of dedicated service. She was the most loving and kind-hearted lady who was loved by so many!
Survivors include her nephews and nieces, Roy Stiles and wife Ann of Robbinsville, NC; Kenny and Rhonda Grant of Atoka, OK; Paulette and Joe Haynes of Health Springs, SC; Sandy and Frank Hassani of Ashworth, CA; Shirley Fortner of Gastonia, NC; Linda and Larry Ogle of Lebanon, TN; Floyd Stiles and Larice Riley of Maiden, NC; Donnie and Jeannie Smith of Mt. Holly, NC; Mary Stiles and Gill Crouch of Bryson City, NC; and Peggy Curtis of Murphy, NC; as well as many other great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., Monday, December 6th at Beech Avenue Baptist Church, 1206 W. Ashton Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28052 with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 12:30 p.m. with Reverend Jeff Cook officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Roy Stiles, Jr., Floyd Stiles, Kenny Grant, Chris Burrell, Roy Stiles III, and Robert Stiles. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Smith, Jeff Burrell, Brad Ogle, Matthew Ogle, Jeremy Haynes, Josh Grant, Raymond Grant, William Kenner, and Jack Walls.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, if you feel the need to stay home, a card or phone call to the family will be appreciated.
