Van Marion Johnson
1949 – 2017

High Shoals – Van Marion Johnson, 68 was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 30, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on February 19, 1949 to Dorothy Johnson Martin and the late Harold Cleveland Johnson.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gaven Clay Ledford, his brothers, Ricky and Doug Johnson; and his father in law, Gerald Clayton Webb.
Van was an active member of the Gastonia First Assembly of God until his illness. Over the years he served as a deacon, usher, greeter, bus driver and Royal Ranger leader. He loved being outdoors working with his horses, his garden and flower beds, and spending time in his building out back fixing anything he could find to fix or sitting in his swing just watching the planes fly over the house. Van loved his time with his family trips to the mountains and to Daniel Boone Inn. The many joys in his life were taking numerous trips to the beach, mountains and Florida. He raised quarter horses and walking horses, he loved riding them on trails all over North and South Carolina with his trail partner his beloved wife Sharan. Other joys were Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Cracker Barrel, cooking for the whole family, auctions and trading all sorts of merchandise. He loved to find other peoples discarded junk and turn it into a treasure. He even opened a store called "Useful Junk". Van never met a stranger and was always a very trusting soul. Van will be missed by all who loved him… Can't wait to see his great big smile again someday!
He was so loved by his wife of 28 years, Sharan Webb Johnson, and their children Julie Tremain (Dale), Carrie Williams (Laurone), Robin Long (Scott), Tyler Johnson and Shelley Ledford; his grandchildren, Emma Tremain, Khadin Boone, Calyiah Williams, LaFaye Williams, Laurone, Jr., Amanda Long,Jonathan Long, Jacob Long and Brendan Long; great grandchildren Jayden and Jonah Johnson; his mother, Dorothy Johnson Martin(Frank); brother Jerry Johnson (Sophia), sister Ann Deal; mother in law, Doris Webb; and special buddy Larry Gaddis
