Gastonia – Raymond Thomas "Tommy" Weldon, Jr., 78 passed away peacefully on August 21, 2015 at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.
He was born in Henderson, NC on October 15, 1936; he was the son of the late Raymond T. Weldon, Sr. and wife Lois of Mount Airy, N.C. and Sallie Weldon Harris and husband Brooks of Henderson, N.C.
After graduating from Henderson High School in 1955 Tommy enrolled at North Carolina State University where he graduated in 1959 with a degree in Textile Engineering. He held manufacturing positions in the area before retiring from Burlington.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew Randy Raynor and a dear friend Eugene Polston.
Left to cherish his memories includes his wife, Joyce Raynor Weldon; his children, Barry Weldon, Mark Weldon and wife Dawn of Gastonia and Gary Weldon of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Olivia Weldon of Mount Holly, N.C., Holly Weldon, Hunter Weldon of Gastonia, N.C.; his brother, Dr. William L. Weldon and wife Pat of Scottsdale, AZ.; cousins, Carrie Genaway and husband Fred of Newman, GA., John Burchett and wife Beverly of Charlotte, N.C., Bryan Pittman and husband Erwin of Wilson, N.C.; nieces Tammy Abernethy and children, Carson and Caroline, Karen Brittain and husband Alan of Conover; nephews Lee Weldon and wife Anita and children, Liam and Meiji of England, niece, Sheila Raynor of Hickory, N.C. , Jonathan Raynor of White Lake and Josh Raynor and wife Jordan and daughter Jamison; John Stallings and wife Jamie and son Jared of Hickory, NC, and Jordan Stallings of Irvine, CA., Joe Stallings and wife Ashley of Benson; brother and sister in law John and Duvvy Raynor of Hickory, NC and precious companion "BUFFY"
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 pm, on Tuesday at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home
Graveside services will be at 2:00pm, Tuesday, August 25th at Gaston Memorial Park, War Memorial 1 section with Dr. M. O. Owens officiating.
Pallbearers will be Shea Stallings, Jerry Polston, Alan Brittain, Vincent Zollo, Mark Fagala and Richard Fagala.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Barringer, Cas Johnson, Dr. B. Hadley Wilson, Steve Epperson, Tommy Kearney, Jim Windham and John Fagala
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. B. Hadley Wilson and the staff Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte, Dr. David T. Thomas and staff at Gaston Medical Group for their wonderful care.
