1943-2016

Gastonia – Tommy Eugene McGuirt, Sr., 72, passed away on February 7, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Mecklenburg County on November 29, 1943 to the late Geraldine Lillian Baggerly and Thomas Ray McGuirt.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Ellen Kay Houlbrook and brother, Larry McGuirt.

He was a Veteran of the US Army and a member of Shelby Seventh Day Adventist Church. Tommy was the owner and operator of Gaston Auto Electric in Lowell and often enjoyed playing the guitar sometimes playing in church. He loved listening to Hank Williams Sr. music.

Survivors include his loving wife of 22 years, Cynthia Wykle McGuirt; children, Jeff McGuirt and Teresa McGuirt, Melissa McGuirt Thatcher; Tommy McGuirt, Jr., and Johnathan Matheson;
Grandchildren, Leah Elizabeth McGuirt, Kaylee Knapp, Tara McGuirt, Joshua Knapp, James McGuirt, Hannah Edgerton and Jacob Edgerton; great grandchildren; Dalton Hagans, Landon Duncan, Azir Bradshaw and Liam Lamphier;
and his adorable companion, Kasey

Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 14th at Shelby Seventh Day Adventist, 2350 Hoey Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152 with Pastor Oscar Montez officiating.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the 4th Floor nursing staff at CaroMont Regional Gastonia for his wonderful loving care.

Interment will be private.
