Thomas "Tom" Alexander Dixon, a veteran of the U.S. Army who dedicated his life to serving his country and community, passed away on March 14, 2024, at the Robin Johnson House. He was born on January 27, 1932 in Gaston County to the late Charles A. and Hattie Spencer Dixon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Melva Boggs Dixon, step-son, Tommy Davis.
Tom's love for helping and taking care of his friends at the Manor brought him immense joy and satisfaction throughout his life. He enjoyed serving and helping people all the time. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army, Korea Conflict. His proudest accomplishments included serving as past Master of the Holland Masonic Lodge #668 and bringing smiles as a clown with the Shiners Oasis Temple Unit. He cherished the time spent with his brothers at the Temple and found fulfillment in assisting others. Tom worked at Jenkins Mechanic for years and Akers Motor Lines in the tire Department. Tom loved to play a good joke on people.
He is survived by his son, Charles "Strawberry" Dixon, and daughter-in-law Jackie; grandsons Charlie Dixon and wife Paulina, Carson Dixon and wife Kate; step-son, Rick Davis and wife Patsy; step-grandchildren, Chad, Clint, Keith and Felicia Davis and his beloved cat, Maxine, along with many cherished friends.
A visitation to honor Tom's life will be held on March 18, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sam Barnette officiating. Burial will take place at Hollywood Cemetery with military honor by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Robert Martin, Maxie Moten, Rick Davis, Clint Davis, Keith Davis and Scott Reneau.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church, 1401 Hoffman Road, Gastonia, NC 28054
In remembrance of Tom's kind spirit, dedication to service, and unwavering friendship, he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace as his legacy lives on through the hearts he touched.
