Gastonia – Ruth Elliott Whitson, 76 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family May 24, 2017 at her residence.
She was born in Gaston County on July 17, 1940 to the late Elisha Joe and Hattie Mae Davis Elliott.
Ruth retired from H.H. Beam with over 25 years of dedicated service to the school system. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church where she loved to sing in the choir and play the piano. She taught Sunday School for the children and later for the nursery. Ruth was a family person who loved spending time with them and cooking for everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at their beach home. She had a huge heart for children! Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed!
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Raymond "Bud" Whitson; son, Scott Whitson and wife Sandra; daughter, Joanie Farr and husband Joe; 3 wonderful grandchildren, Jake Farr and wife Brittany; Emily Farr and Andrew Whitson; 3 great grandchildren, Samuel Farr and Jovie Farr and 1 on the way; brothers, Ronnie and Ray Elliott; sister, Carolyn Lingerfelt; 13 nieces and nephews;
Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Rotunda on Saturday, May 27th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., prior to the 3:00 p.m. Funeral Service at Union Presbyterian Church, 5615 Union Road, Gastonia with Reverend James Holeman officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jake Farr, Andrew Whitson, Alex Elliott, Mike Buck, Bryan Lingerfelt, Michael Wingard and Neil Elliott.
Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Union Presbyterian Church, 5615 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.
