Maiden, NC - Ruth S. Tolson, 67, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born in Amsterdam, NY in 1951. Ruth was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred Surento. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Seaman and brother-in-law, Fred Seaman.
Mrs. Tolson was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High, class of 1969. She worked for Mohasco Industries where she met her future husband, Thomas Tolson and they married in 1973. Mrs. Tolson enjoyed crafting; participating in many shows over the years and was an avid reader. Her passion for literature was only surpassed by her love for family. She delighted in spending time with her children and later her grandchildren, baking cookies and playing games. First as a Naval wife and later as a world traveler, she took pleasure in seeing and learning as much as possible. Her journey brought her to Guam, Japan, Europe, the Caribbean, and more.
Left to cherish her memories includes her husband, Thomas Tolson, daughter, Christine Schrader and husband Phillip of Maiden, NC; sons, Jeffery Tolson of Speculator, NY; Steven Tolson and wife Emily Glass of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew and Danielle Schrader of Maiden, NC; sister, Barbara Surento of Florida; brothers, Joseph Surento and wife, Tara of FL; Freddy Surento of Oklahoma; Patrick Surento and wife Tammy of Oklahoma; and John Surento of NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 11th at the First United Methodist Church, 303 North Main Avenue, Maiden, NC 28652. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 303 North Main Avenue, Maiden, NC 28652.
