Petal, Mississippi – Reverend Rufus John Rathbun, 92, passed away on February 3 , 2016 at his home in Petal Mississippi.
He was formerly of Belmont, NC born in Flint, Michigan on March 7, 1923. He was the son of the late John and Rose Rathbun
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Ida Laverne Rathbun; brother, Stanley Rathbun and sister, Rose Welker
Reverend Rufus Rathbun was a Church of God minister for over 50 years and a member of the Spiritual Life Center of Petal, Mississippi.
Survivors include son, John Rathbun (Linda) of Petal, MS; daughters, Janet Hicks (Charles) of Belmont, NC and Linda Koprowski (Tom) of California; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Rathbun of Flint, Michigan; John Rathbun (Sharon) of Oklahoma; sister, Geraldine Burgess of California and sister-in-law, Mary Dowless of Michigan.
Celebration of life service will be held Thursday, February 11th at 2:00 pm at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont, NC with the releasing of the doves.
