1934-2017
Gastonia - Roy Lewis Glover, 83, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 14, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Gaston County and is the son of the late William Price Glover and Lyda Lewis Glover.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Stanley Theodore Baucom, Jr.; brothers, James Calvin Glover and John Lee Glover.
Roy was a veteran of the US Air Force; where he served in the Korean War. He retired from Homelite/John Deere Company where he worked in the Test Department testing chainsaws. After retiring he loved to re-build small engines and his favorite projects were working on chainsaws.
Roy is a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church where he is a Deacon, former member of the Grounds Committee, Choir and the Teller Committee
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Hazel Dye Glover; son, Michael Glover and wife Margie; daughter, Janice Glover Baucom; son, Mark Brooks; 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Phyllis Kirkley and husband Jimmy.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 17th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, September 18th at 2:00 p.m., at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Reverends David Keuss and Richard Brown officiating.
Interment will follow at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by the U. S. Air Force and the Gaston County Honor Guard, to be followed by The Releasing of the Doves.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Glover, Danny Parker, Timothy Parker, Michael Smith, Cody Baucom and Anthony Baucom. Honorary Pallbearers will be Matthew Baucom and Jason Baucom.
