Gastonia – Roy Kenneth Auten, 83, passed away on December 26, 2018 at his residence. He was born October 15, 1935 to the late Martin and Emma Henderson Auten. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruth Myers, Rita Simms, Roberta Simpson, Rosie Milliken, Ruby Hanna and Ray Auten.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Roy retired as Supervisor for Burlington Industries with over 33 years of dedicated service. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifelong member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church.
Roy enjoyed traveling, getting lost with his granddaughter. He grew up on his family farm and enjoyed fishing; His last job was with security for Mr. Richardson at the Carolina Panthers Stadium. He was a big fan of the Panthers and the Atlanta Braves.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn Hagans Auten; Son, Kenneth Auten and wife Jackie, his precious granddaughter, Rebecca Auten;
Several nieces and nephews; beloved fur babies Angel and Rascal.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29th with Rev. Richard Brown officiating.
Pallbearers will be the Gastonia Fire Department Honor Guard.
Interment will follow at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054
