Gastonia - Robert Stephens, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born in Easley, South Carolina and is the son of the late Claude and Grace Stephens.
Robert is a member of Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Gastonia and he retired from Nitta Corporation of America.
He was very involved with the Shriners Hospital and often arranged Car Shows to help raise donations for the Shriners Hospital. Although he was not a Shriner, he was thought of as an Honorary Member of the Shriners for his dedication in arranging Fund Raising Projects for the children. He was a founding member of the Carolina Camaro Association, now known as the Carolina GM Association.
Robert is survived by his loving daughter, Tammy Payne; step-daughter, Candy Morris; step-son, Hugh Morris; three grandchildren, Steven Morris and fiance', Kassandra White, Logan Morris, Michael Payne; great-granddaughter, Harleigh Payne.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Pea officiating. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the Memorial Service.
Inurnment will be private and at a later date.
Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Janice Hicks Stephens and Cathy Terry Stephens; son, Robert Paul Stephens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Shriners Hospital for Children (Greenville), 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605.
