Robert "Gebo" Cloninger
Dallas - Robert Gerard "Gebo" Cloninger, Born in Gaston County March 19, 1921 to Harley H. and Nellie A. Cloninger, died Thursday, January 2, 2013.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Jordan Cloninger, his son, Timothy Scott Cloninger, his brothers Horace H. Cloninger and G. Coit (Shorty) Cloninger.
Gebo served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and worked thirty seven years for Southern Bell (Bell South). He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and a great friend to so many people. He was a great story teller and a very wise and kind man.
Gebo is survived by one brother John A. Cloninger, his sons; Robert G. (Gerry) Cloninger, Jr and wife Madina, Fred H. Cloninger and daughter Dorothy (Dotty) C. Brooks and husband Matthew Keeble; grand-children, Amy C. Abernathy, William L. Kiser, Emily C. Butler, Nellie C. Crosston, Amanda C. Stines, Robert G. Cloninger, III, John C. Brooks; great-grandchildren, Taylor Standridge, Austin Standridge, Kailey Butler, Aiden Butler, Lincoln Crosston and John C. Brooks, II (Jack) and many nieces and nephews.
The family expresses gratitude for the care and kindness from the staff at Peak Resources, Gastonia, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Family Life Center.
The family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00pm Saturday, January 4, 2014. The funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hardin, NC where Gebo was a life-long member. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Military Rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard
