Gastonia Mr. Raymond Charles Byrd, 76, of Gastonia, went home to be with the Lord March 12, 2009 at the Robin Johnson House, Gaston Hospice, Dallas. He was a native of Gaston County, born January 14, 1933 to the late James Leonard and Lola Smith Byrd Mr. Byrd was a US Navy veteran for 4 years serving on the USS Valley Forge, worked for years at R & A Tractor, White Motor Lines and Carolina Freight before retiring in 1995. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and we will miss him greatly. He was a former member at Cleveland Heights Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, John David Wagner Survivors include his wife of 54 yrs., Patricia Ann Falls Byrd; Children: Stacy Kevin and wife Lisa Byrd of Gastonia; Boyce Ray and wife Kelly Byrd of Gastonia; Mona Moye of Gastonia, Sonya Whitener of Shelby, Karen and husband Jerry Spangler, who is a special son-in-law Grandchildren: Thomas & Jacob Byrd, Cameron Byrd, Jessica Shope and Nathan Moye, Haley and Cassie Spangler; Great Grandchildren: Linsey Wagner, Gabriel Pack, Kailey Alyse Washum and Carson Shope Brothers, James and wife Edith Byrd, Richard and wife Billie Byrd all of Gastonia Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the daughters residence 400 Meadow View Drive, Gastonia Funeral service will be 3:00pm, Sunday at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll Henderson officiating Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Veterans 3B section with Military rites by The Gaston County WWII Last Mans Club Memorials may be to Laurel Wood Baptist Church Building Fund, 124 Gamble Loop Road, Bessemer City, NC 28016 Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia 704 864-5144 is serving the family Condolences may be made to www.withersandwhisenantfuneral.com
