Gastonia –Phyllis Bass Scates, 57, entered into her Heavenly Home on September 13, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Tampa, Florida on December 9, 1956 to the late Reverend Joe Bass Sr., and Lulamae Christine Tedder Bass

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Vernon Bass Jr., and sister, Verna Moran

Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family especially with her grandbabies. She was a big Panther football fan, loved to cook and was known for her wonderful red velvet cakes. Phyllis loved working at Goodwill Publishers, Inc. for over 20 years, often characterized as a "workaholic"

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, James "Randy" Scates; son, James Randy Scates, Jr. (Jessica) of Fort Benning, GA; daughter, Deanna Scates and boyfriend, David Hudsepth of Cramerton; brother, Reverend Timothy Bass (Sharon) of MS; sister, Darla Richie (Mike) of Florida; grandchildren ; Kyle, Maddie, Destiny, Kiley, Brittany, Dylan, Alyssa, Makailae, TreyBoy, Zachary, Brayden, and Devin

The family will be receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 17th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home

A Celebration of life service will be 3:00 pm Friday, September 18th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Reverend Timothy Bass

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park
