Gastonia – Oanh Van Truong, 90, formerly of Belmont, it is with great sadness we announce the death of our father. He transitioned from this life on November 5, 2019.

Oanh Truong was a native of Vietnam born on December 6, 1928. He was the son of the late Nguyen Truong and Ngan Tran. Oanh served in the Military during the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of First Lieutenant Colonel while serving in the military (serving 13 years as a Prisoner of War). He then came to America in 1992. He is a Life Member of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America. Oanh was preceded in death by his wife, Yen Tran who died in 2009.

Oanh Truong leaves behind a lineage of family including 5 sons, Lam Truong and wife Hoang Vo; Luan Truong and wife, Tam Le; Linh Truong and wife Dau Huynh; Long Truong and wife Cu Miu; Liem Truong and wife Chan Ung; 4 daughters, Loan Truong and husband Hai Tran; Lien Truong and husband Em Ngo; Loc Truong and husband Tuyen Pham and Khue Truong and husband Robert Read; and 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 8th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm; and Saturday, November 9th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, and then from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, North Carolina.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, November 10th from 10:00 am until 12:00 Noon at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen "A Quiet Place", Belmont, NC with Military Honors.
