1934-2017
Mt. Holly – Milton Eugene "Gene" Smith, 83 passed away May 16, 2017 at Caromont Regional Gastonia.
He was born in Shelby on May 13, 1934 to the late Buford and Edith White Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his infant son Stanley Smith.
He was a Veteran of the US Navy. Gene was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Shirley Bell Smith; son Steven M. Smith and wife Lora; daughters Rae Ann Flowers and husband Ray, Cindy Orren and husband Vann; grandchildren Josh, Shanna, Jeremy and Ben and seven great grandchildren; sisters Hazel Vaughn and Shirley Martin.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Hicks officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 10:30-11:30 prior to the service.
Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
