Mertie "Sue" Lucielle Duncan

Mertie Lucielle Duncan of Dallas, North Carolina, passed away July 16, 2023 at CaroMont regional medical center with her loving family by her side. 

Mertie was born in Gaston County on March 8, 1954 to the late Paul J. Sr, and Mattie Teague Kirksey. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandchildren Jessica Duncan, and CJ Setola.

Mertie loved her grandchildren and they were her life. She will always be remembered as an amazing woman who loved spending time with her family and creating many happy memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She had a special dedication to Holy Angels in Belmont, where she would spend time with her granddaughter, who lived there, and the other residents, who became very fond of her, and looked forward to her visits.

She is survived by her children, Shannon Setola, Jodie Pearson, and Chris Pearson; grandchildren Storm Setola, Hailey Motes (Jacob), Stone Michael, Brianna Setola, Jasper Pearson, and her greatgrandchild, Mattie Motes; brothers, Sydney Kirksey, Paul “Jacky” Kirksey (Ruby), Ricky Kirksey (Susan); and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Camp Sertoma, 135 Camp Sertoma Road, Dallas, North Carolina on July 28, 2023 at 7:00 PM with Pastor Heath Honeycutt officiating.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Angels in Belmont PO Box 710, Belmont NC 28012.
