Lowell – Melvin Reid Taylor, 76 passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017 at Robin Johnson House surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Gaston County on July 21, 1941 to the late Douglas L. and Bessie Pace Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother
R. Douglas Taylor.

Melvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dallas where he was a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class and served on the Board of Trustees. He is a veteran of the US Marine Corp where he served during the Vietnam War. Melvin was an Engineer with CSX-Railroad, where he retired with over 30 years of dedicated service. Melvin was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed!

Left to cherish his memories includes his loving wife of 51 years, Marsha Friday Taylor; daughter, Pam Taylor Church and husband Brandon; son, John Paul Taylor and wife Kelly Garrison Taylor;
grandchildren, Lee Bingham and wife Lindsay Musick Bingham; Gil Church; Braeden Taylor, Lucas Taylor, and Kenslee Taylor;
sister, Shirley Hinson

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to friends and family for the loving concern and support during Melvin's illness. A special thank you to the staff at Robin Johnson House for their compassionate care.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 13th at First United Methodist Church, 301 West Main Street, Dallas prior to the 1:30 p.m., Celebration of Life Service with Reverend Caroll Flack officiating.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park
