Gastonia – Matthew Yugeng Lu, 12, passed away suddenly on June 20, 2019 at the Levine Children's Hospital with his family at his side.
He was born in Gaston County on June 18, 2007. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Shan Wu.
Matthew was a student at Cramerton Middle School where he enjoyed playing in the school band. He played the trumpet and drums and had recently taught himself how to play the Saxophone. He also was a member of the Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club. He was an aspiring member of the Civil Air Patrol following in his sister's footsteps.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving parents, Yiping Lu and Jiawei Wu; his wonderful sister that he so admired, Maggie Lu; grandparents, Lude Lu and Guiru Chen, and Zhongke Yang; aunts and uncles, Jie Wu and Hui Xiong, Yian Lu and Carsten Hansen; cousins, Hao Wu, Emma and Adam Hansen.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29th 2019 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with a Funeral Service to be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 30th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. Dwayne Burks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Civil Air Patrol, c/o Sue Beutler, 2205 Leroy Ave. Gastonia NC 28054. In memo put "in honor of Matthew Lu".
