Matthew Chase Lewis, 18 of Gastonia went home to be with the Lord January 9, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital. He was a native of Gaston County, born February 22, 1992 to Todd and Sherry Poarch Lewis.
Chase was a 2010 graduate of Ashbrook High School. He was an active member of Connections Ministries, in Belmont. His courageous and brave heart shined through his warm smile. He was a blessing to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Gerald Poarch.
Survivors include his parents Todd and Sherry Poarch Lewis; a sister, Lauren Lewis; and two brothers, Chad Bartlett and wife Amanda, and Cory Bartlett and wife Catherine, and a niece Halle Bartlett. His grandparents Marie Poarch, Don and Judy Lewis all of Gastonia. Great Grandmother Pauline Shields of Gastonia; uncles Carroll Poarch and wife Debbie, Kevin Poarch and wife Pam, and several cousins, and Chase's loving and devoted girlfriend Jessica Ballesteros who shared a love that most people don't get to experience in a lifetime.
Celebration of life service will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Ranlo Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Thompson, Rev. Chuck Hodge, and Rev. Matt Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, with the releasing of the doves.
