Gastonia - Marvin Lars Smith, 60, passed away on May 27, 2016 surrounded by his family and in the devoted, loving care of hospice at the Robin Johnson House.

He was born in Gaston County on April 21, 1956 to the late Lars Marvin and Betty Head Smith.

Marvin was a member of Fraley Memorial Baptist Church. He graduated from North Gaston High School and attended Gaston College. Marvin worked as a heavy machine truck driver for Coast International for several years. He loved working on cars and anything to do with World War II History. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife Phyllis McDaniel Smith; daughter, Paula Bradley and husband Brandon of Gastonia; son, Matthew Smith and wife Britany of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Danielle and Jacob Rhyne; Cali Spradlin and Andrew Smith; sister, Nancy Falls and husband Kirk of Kings Mountain;
brother, Randy Smith of Lincolnton.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 29th from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 29th at Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, 3025 Fraley Church Road, Gastonia, NC with Dr. Warner Doles and Reverend Charles Keller officiating.

Memorials may be made to Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, Post Office Box 775, Lowell, NC 28098 and/or Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092

Interment will be private.
