Gastonia –Martha Ellen Thompson Young, 96 passed away peacefully on October 12, 2017 at Peak Resources, Gastonia.
She was born in Durham County on April 27, 1921 to the late Jacob Thompson and Patty Barbee Thompson King. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her father, Frank King, her husband of 48 years, Robert Henry Young, Jr., who died in 1988, and her son Robert Henry Young, III.
She was a member of Watts Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Young was a retired secretary in banking. She also enjoyed reading, word puzzles, traveling and spending time with her family. Mrs. Young was MOST PROUD of her family!! She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed!
Left to cherish her memories includes her loving daughter, Ellen Young Winters; granddaughter, Tracy McKay and husband Dan; great grandchildren, Dylan McKay and Caroline McKay.
Funeral services will 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 18th at Watts Street Baptist Church, 800 Watts Street, Durham, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday at the Maplewood Cemetery, 1621 Duke University Road, Durham, North Carolina.
