Gastonia – Martha Ann Breitenhirt Rockett, 79, after an extended illness passed away peacefully on October 23, 2018 at her residence.
She was born in Bowie, Texas on April 23, 1939. Martha was the daughter of the late Reverend Boyton Blake Breitenhirt, Sr. and Thelma King Breitenhirt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Blake Breitenhirt.
She attended Agnes Scott College and was a graduate of Guilford College. Martha worked as a Social Worker for many years and retired as a Risk Manager from CaroMont Health after many years of dedicated service. Martha spent hours of each day assisting and caring for other individuals. Martha was a member of First Presbyterian Church Gastonia where she served as an Elder. She was devoted to her church, as well as being associated with numerous civic and community organizations during her lifetime. She was born to shop and loved all living animals and creatures.
Martha is survived by her husband Bennett Rockett;
her brother, Joel K. Breitenhirt, wife Patty; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 26th in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 1621 East Garrison Boulevard, Gastonia with Reverend Lauren Sease Vanacore and Pastor John Pea officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00 – 10:45 a.m., prior to the service in the Parlor.
