Marilyn Summey Finger

Marilyn Summey Finger passed away on November 10, 2023, in Anderson, South Carolina. She was born on May 20, 1931, in Gaston County, North Carolina to Ralph Eugene Summey and Pearl Jenkins Summey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Joseph Finger, Sr., her brothers, Ralph E. Summey, Jr and wife Rachel, and William Summey.  She is survived by her sister-in-law, Carole Summey. In 2004, Marilyn experienced an immense loss with the passing of her devoted husband of over 50 years, Robert Joseph Finger Sr. However, she found strength in her Saviour Jesus Christ with her three children and their spouses: Robert Joseph Finger Jr. (Yvonne), Scott Summey Finger (Ashley), and Rosemary Finger Routszong (Steve).

Marilyn, fondly called Mimi, will be deeply missed by her grandchildren:  Jacob (Megan), Nation (Jordan), Easton (Martha), Alex (Katherine), Mariel (Reid), Ben, Kathleen, Olivia, and Robert. She enjoyed the precious moments with her great-grandson, Rory, and joyful news of the recent birth of her great-granddaughter, Amelia. All these grandchildren were a source of immense happiness in Marilyn's life.

Marilyn dedicated a career to education as she spent over 32 years as a schoolteacher before retiring. Her passion for teaching left a lasting impact on countless students.  Most of her career was spent teaching Algebra at Hunter Huss High School, where she was known for her diligence in making sure all her students were progressing in Math knowledge while striving to impart a love for learning as well. While at Hunter Huss, she formed friendships with the faculty that lasted many decades.

An accomplished musician, Marilyn majored in Piano and Math at Salem College after graduating from Dallas High School. Her innate talent for music allowed her to serve as the organist at Our Saviour Lutheran Church for many years. Marilyn's contributions to the church and dedication to her faith were an inspiration to all who knew her. In addition to many years of service to her church, she was also a faithful member of the Dallas Women's Club, Dallas Historical Society and Museum, Gaston Music Education Foundation, the Gaston Debutante Club, DAR (Major William Chronicle Chapter in Gastonia and Hudson Berry Chapter in Anderson SC), and UDC (Robert E Lee Chapter in Anderson, SC). She wholeheartedly supported these organizations' missions and valued their impact on society.

Throughout her ninety-two years of life, Marilyn strongly valued her family, friends, church community, and civic organizations.  She cherished the moments spent with these and created many beautiful memories. Her faithful presence and peaceful nature made her a joy to know.

To honor Marilyn's life and celebrate the legacy she leaves behind, visitation will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dallas, North Carolina, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 2:00 PM with Dr. Alexander S. Campbell (her pastor of Christ Reformed Church Anderson, SC) officiating. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Mausoleum B.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church (Dallas, NC) and Christ Reformed Church (Anderson, SC)
