Gastonia- Margot C. Vogt passed away quietly at MeadowWood Nursing Center in Gastonia on the afternoon of May 13, 2009 at the age of 88, following a long battle with Alzeheimers disease. The late Mrs. Margot Clementine Vogt of Gastonia, was preceded in death by her husband , Dr. J. William Vogt, Jr. of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She leaves behind loving sons Peter and Paul, daughters Margaret, Monica Williams, and Madeleine Rothmayer, five grandchildren-and a remarkable life. Born in 1921 in Bielefeld, Germany she and her parents barely escaped the Nazis on the last German ship allowed to leave the country, emigrating to Cleveland, Ohio. Before moving to North Carolina in 1994, she spent much of her adult life in her beloved Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where she leaves behind many friends. An active member of the Chagrin Valley Women's Club, the Republican Women's Club, The Alumni Association of Notre Dame Academy in Chardon, Ohio, and St. Michael Catholic Church of Gastonia, NC, she filled her life with love and service to her family and friends. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Gastonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 11 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Arnsparger officiating. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church, 708 St. Michael's Lane, Gastonia NC 28052, or to Gaston Hospice, P.O Box 3984 Gastonia NC 28054.
