Gastonia – Major Jerry Wayne Lyles, 62 passed away suddenly on October 31, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Benoit, Mississippi on March 31, 1956 to the late Wilburn Lyles and Peggy Klemme Lyles. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by son Alex Lyles.
Jerry was an Officer of The Salvation Army for over 40 years.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 42 years, Major Betty Lyles; his children, Captain Scott Lyles (Michelle), Captain Chris Lyles (Elisa), Michael Lyles; two grandchildren, Abigail and Madison; brothers, Billy Klemme, Junior Lyles, Marvin Lyles, Bert Lyles and his brother from another mother, Major Otis (Vivian) Childs.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home
A Celebration of Life service will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 4th at The Salvation Army, 1506 Union Road, Gastonia, NC, the service will be led by Captain Jonathan Raymer and Major Otis Childs officiating
Interment will at Gaston Memorial Park with the releasing of the doves.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, P. O. Box 1094, Gastonia, NC 28053
