Gastonia –Linda Lorene Russell Smith, 76, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on December 18, 2017.
She was born in Gaston County on July 29, 1941 to the late James Russell and Desma Jones Russell Wellman. Linda was preceded in death by her brothers; Jimmy, Donnie, and Bob Russell; step-father, Claude Otis Wellman.
Linda was active in her church, where she met and married her husband; served as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Director. She retired from Carolina Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic after serving many years in their insurance department. Linda leaves a legacy of strong family bonds and Christian values. Her "God Squad" will live on thanks to her strong influence!
Left to cherish her memory includes her husband of 55 years, John Hugh Smith of Gastonia; children, Cathy Heeley and husband Chris of Kissimmee, FL; Chris Smith and wife Terri of Lake Wylie, SC; Jonathan Smith of Calabasas, CA; grandchildren, Ashley Smith Johnson of Clemmons, NC; Shane Smith of Lake Wylie, SC and Garrett Helms of Stanley, NC; great –grandchild, Avery Grace Johnson of Clemmons, NC
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, December 21st at 2:00 p.m. at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Reverend Lamar Creel and Reverend Lewis Guinn officiating.
Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park with the releasing of the doves.
