Gastonia- Leon K. 'Chick' Shuford, 80, loving husband, father
and 'Paw Paw' went home to be with our Lord February 13, 2010 surrounded by his family.
He was a native of Gaston County, born in Bessemer City, May 6, 1929
to the late Cora Ray McCray Shuford and Frances Burgin Shuford.
Chick was a 1949 graduate of Bessemer City High School, where he was an outstanding player in football, basketball and baseball. He was a member of Maylo United Methodist Church.
Chick retired in 1990 from Dennison Manufacturing and worked at Central Yarn and Dyeing as a supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bob, Guy, and Charlie Shuford, and a great granddaughter, Sydney Bowen.
Chick was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved watching nascar and other sporting events on Sundays. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Chick could bring a smile to the face of everyone he met. His love and his humor will live in our hearts and memories forever.
He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of almost 60 years, Dottie J. Blankenship Shuford; his children: Kenneth Dale Shuford and wife Lou Ann
Audrey Jordan and husband Paul; a sister, Marie Chapman of Las Vegas, NV; Grandchildren: Lisa Bowen and husband Chris,
Brian Mitchell and wife Amy, Kenny Shuford
Great Grandchildren: Abbey Bowen, Luke and Drew Mitchell, Jaiden Shuford and Numerous nieces and nephews
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Courtland Terrace, and also thanks to Gaston Hospice and special nephew Billy Sherrill and wife Connie.
Funeral service will be 2:00pm, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Maylo United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Auten and Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating
Family will receive friends 1:00 until 2:00pm prior to the service
Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum
Pallbearers will be Kenny Shuford, Brian Mitchell, Billy Sherrill, Bill Fisher, Jerry Underwood and Chris Bowen
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Maylo United Methodist Church, 1900 Spencer Mountain Road, Gastonia, NC 28054 and to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054
