Dallas – Katharyn Tench Byrd, 100, formerly of Gastonia went to Heaven on January 31, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born in Georgia on December 18, 1918 to the late Paul Hilton Tench and Anna Yearwood Tench. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lyle Woodrow Byrd; her infant daughter, Gayle Byrd Lingerfelt and daughter, Wilma Carolyn Byrd; son, Ross Byrd; her siblings, Loosh, Mattie Lee, Hubert, Andrew, Howard Tench and Gertrude Lane.
Mrs. Byrd was a charter member of Robinson Presbyterian and moved her membership to South Marietta Street Baptist Church where she was active.
Left to cherish her memories includes her children; Rex Byrd, Jerry Byrd (Sylvia), Patsy Harris (Marshall) and Richard Glenn Byrd; brother, Pete Tench; sister, Evelyn Clark; Twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 3rd prior to the Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 p.m., at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Self officiating. Interment will follow at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Byrd, Gary Lingerfelt, Andrew Bolding, Matthew Bolding, Christopher Lingerfelt, Preston Black; Honorary Pallbearers, Rick Russell and Eddie Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
