Gastonia –Kate Lewis Howington, 83, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2017 at the Robin Johnson House with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Gaston County on August 24, 1934 to the late Melbourne and Ruth Glover Lewis.
Kate was a member of United Baptist Church. Kate worked at Homelite/John Deere and CaroMont Health. She was formerly the organist at First Baptist Church Cramerton, Friendship Baptist Church, Sandy Plains Baptist Church and other various churches in the community where she gave many years of dedicated service. Kate was a very kind and giving person; always putting others first. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend who will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memories includes her loving husband Dwight Howington;
her daughters, Nancy Kiser and husband Ken; Cindy Ivey and husband Walt;
grandchildren, David Jolly, Stephen Cochcroft and wife Megan; and Stacy Cochcroft;
sister, Evelyn Funderburk and husband Don
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the Funeral Service on Friday, December 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at United Baptist Church, 1970 Lowell Bethesda Road, Gastonia, NC with Reverend Ray Pennell officiating
Interment will follow at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with the releasing of the doves.
Pallbearers will be Doug Funderburk, Richard Glover, Sam Allen, Jimmy Glover, Michael Glover, Scott Hinkle and Honorary Pallbearer Kenneth Hinkle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Baptist Church, 1970 Lowell Bethesda Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.
