Belmont – Joyce Gibson Jonas, 64, joined our heavenly Father peacefully on October 4, 2016 at her residence with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Mecklenburg County on December 9, 1951 to the late David H. and Esther Langley Gibson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Paul and Nellie Jonas; her brothers, Marshall Jonas and The Reverend Dean Mitchem.
Joyce graduated from South Point High School in 1970 and from Gaston College in 1972. Joyce worked with the youth at Catawba Heights Wesleyan Church. She also worked with the children at East Belmont Baptist and taught the Adult Women's Sunday School Class and sang in the choir for many years. Joyce was a former employee of Goodwill Publishers and Fidelity Associates. She was also owner of Joyce's Econ-U-Wash and TBC Cleaning and Repair.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 44 years, Retired Cpt. William Lee "Bill" Jonas; her one and only beloved son, Caleb Harrison Jonas, who she was extremely proud of and the love of her life; her granddaughter, Stratton Jonas who brought her much joy every day.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at East Belmont Baptist Church, 501 Catawba Street, Belmont
Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7th at East Belmont Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Taylor officiating.
Pallbearers will be Keith Mitchem, Andy Mitchem, Dylan Mitchem, Leroy Quinn, Aaron Biggerstaff, David Summerville and Philip Shive
