Johnny Herndon
1964-2014
Gastonia-John Rush "Johnny" Herndon, IV, 50 passed away December 23, 2014 at his residence.
He was born in Augusta, GA on December 9, 1964 to the late John Rush Herndon III and Kathryn Jarrard Herndon. A 1983 graduate of Ashbrook High School, Johnny is well-remembered for his days of playing football for the Greenwave before going on to achieve success as a skilled carpenter and custom homebuilder.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie and sons John Rush Herndon V, Cooper Scott Herndon and David Tate Herndon; his sisters Lisa Hudspeth (Clover, SC), Janice Abernathy (Lowell, NC), Donna Ellinger Ondrey (Waco, TX) and Michelle Ellinger-Burbach (Elk Grove Village, IL); and his brothers Scott Herndon (Memphis, TN) and Alan Ellinger (Pearland, TX), in addition to many nieces, nephews and extended family across the United States and Canada. Through his gregarious personality and selfless generosity, Johnny had a profound impact on many lives and will forever remain in the hearts of his family and countless lifelong friends.
Celebration of life service will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 27th at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service.
