1930-2018
Maiden - John Henry 'Joe' Miles was born June 28, 1930 to the late Mrs. Edith Gaither Miles and Mr. Alonzo Miles. God called his servant home on Wednesday September 12, 2018, after 88 years of life.
Joe was a DEVOTED father and servant to the Lord. Joe graduated from Central High while also serving as the bus driver. He took landscaping courses at CVCC. He was a faithful member of Community Baptist of Maiden as Deacon and served 72 yrs. as a member of the Mt and Catawba Association. During his life he received many accolades. He worked as a landscaper for 28 years, retired from the Post Office after 25 years, Ray's Garage of Maiden for after 28 years. He joined the US ARMY from 1949-1951 where he served in the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged and awarded 2 Bronze Stars.
Joe leaves many loved ones to cherish his memories; His wife Mary Lee Miles; 2 sons Alvin Sherwood Miles (5 children 6 grandchildren) and Casey Oates (5 children); 2 daughters, Crystal Miles (5 children 12 grandchildren) and Danyell Miles (2 children); 1 God daughter Narissia Huff (3 children) and 1 God son Toland Huff (4 children); A special family The McCalls and Special granddaughter DeAndra Miles; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Alonzo Miles, daughter, Baby Girl Miles; brothers, Murray, Jack, Bobby (Bob) and Billy (Bill) Miles; sisters, Lullah Mae and Beulah; niece, Patricia Miles and 2 Grandchildren James and Amanda.
WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT
Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 22nd at Living Word Church, 923 Island Ford Road, Maiden, NC with Bishop Tony Thompson, Apostle Shannon Wingate and Reverend LeRone Gore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., prior to the service. Committal/Interment will follow service at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
