1943-2017
Joel Benjamin Hoffman, 73, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Gastonia and was the son of the late Jennings and Margaret Avery Hoffman.
Joel retired from the Waste Water Treatment Plant for the City of Gastonia and is a member of Davis Memorial Baptist Church.
Joel is survived by his wife, Joyce Baynard Hoffman; daughters, Julie Hoffman of Lincolnton, Delacey Hoffman Sigmon of Gastonia; two step-sons, Kevin Baynard and wife Tiffany, Brian Baynard of Gastonia; one step-daughter, Angela Baynard of Gastonia; four sisters, Betty Poteat, Mary Ellen Hardin and husband Allen, Sylvia Roberts, Linda Savage and husband Bill of Gastonia; brother, J. B. Hoffman, Jr. and wife Joyce of Bakersville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Devan Hoffman and wife Mandy Jo, Dayanaira Hullett, Draygen Sigmon, Dawson Sigmon; three great grandchildren, Degan Hoffman, Faith Hoffman, Destiny Hoffman; four step-grandchildren, Dylan Baynard, Logan Mathis, Abby Baynard, Jackson Baynard.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with A Celebration of Life Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor R. L. McAllister officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with the Releasing of the Doves.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerry Dean Hoffman, Fred Lee Hoffman, Sr.; sister, Judy Kay Hoffman.
