Joe Donald Newman

Joe Donald Newman, 69, a beloved member of community, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, North Carolina. Born on September 22, 1954 in Kershaw County, South Carolina, Joe was the son of J.D. and Mamie Lee Polston Newman. He is also preceded in death by many siblings, Lib, Pauline, Sue, Frank and Ebbie.

Joe dedicated many years of his life working as a fixer in textiles for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. 

Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Gunter Newman, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He also leaves behind his son, Joe “YoYo” Newman (Cindi), and his daughters, Sarah “Weasel” Calderon (Roberto), Susie Chastaine; 9 grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Maci, Michaella, Allen, Daniel, Roxanne, Roberto, Jr and Logan; 10 great grandchildren; and a niece, Brenda Grice.

In memory of Joe, A Celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26th at Garver Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend David Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
