Gastonia – Joan Tausch Collier, 82 passed away peacefully Friday, October 3, 2014 at Belaire Health Care Center.
She was born in Panama City, Florida on November 6, 1931 to the late Hans and Blanch Willis Tausch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bryan A. Collier and grandson, Charles Roger Teal; mother and father-in law, Charlie and Alice Collier; brother and sister-in-laws, Ray and Kate England, R.L. and Mary Collier, Joe and Joyce Collier
Joan was a member of Linwood Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, served as an Elder and was the Secretary and Treasurer. She retired from TiCaro and Public Service. She mentored students for over 20 years at H.H. Beam and Southwest Middle Schools; 30 years serving as a Girl Scout Leader, Adult Literacy Tutor, Volunteer for Crisis Assistance Ministries, PTO Volunteer and Member of the Linwood Road and Gastonia Community Watch organizations. She was honored as Gaston County's 2004 Woman of the Year Award for her many years of dedication to the community and her outpouring love for children.
Joan treasured her family. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all the hearts that she touched during her lifetime. The family wishes to thank the Belaire Health Care Center Staff for their special care and love shown to their entire family. Also, a special thanks to Johnnie Flanagan, Debbie Ormand and Janet Dimeo.
Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Teal of Goose Creek, SC and Terri Barrett, and granddaughter, Brittany Barrett; brother, Jake Tausch (Debra) of Albuquerque; sister, Sandy Thomas (Carroll) of Sharon, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Service will be 4 pm Sunday, October 5th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Bogle officiating. Visitation will be from 2- 4:00 pm prior to the service. Inurnment will be Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Gaston Memorial Park
