Gastonia-Jesse 'Jake' Harrison Stewart, Jr. 84 of Gastonia went home to be with the Lord June 15, 2011 at Belaire Health Care Center.
He was a native of Cleveland County, born January 28, 1927 to the late Jess Harrison and Beulah Crawford Stewart.
He was a graduate of Ashley High School and was owner of J.H. Stewart & Son Inc. Jake attended Linwood Presbyterian Church, He was a Navy Armed Guard/Seaman 1st Class in the US Navy, serving in the European African Mideast area, in Pacific in amphibious forces and in initial occupation of Japan, and was a member of the VFW, Gastonia American Legion Post 23
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ellen Nicholson Stewart;
a son John Stewart; a brother Steve Stewart and a sister Frances Ashton
Survivors include his son Alan Stewart of Gastonia;
a sister Mildred Hewitt of McLean, VA
Numerous nieces and nephews
Graveside service will be 11:00am, Saturday, June18, 2011at Gaston Memorial Park, Masonic 1D section with Rev. Jerry Robinson officiating with military honors by the WWII Last Man Club.
Family will receive 10:00 until 10:45 prior to the service at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home
