1944-2016

Gastonia – Jerry Wayne "Butch" Wilson, 71, entered his eternal home on January 30, 2016 after a short, valiant battle with lung cancer.
He was born to the late Albert and Clara Taylor Wilson.

Jerry retired in 2011 from the City of Gastonia Cemetery division. He attended Ashley High School and Graduated from Gaston College with a degree in accounting and small engine repair. He loved to work on lawn mowers and play golf. He was blessed with a large and loving family. He married the love of his life, Vivian Barker on July 29, 1967, in York, South Carolina. Jerry and Vivian had three beautiful daughters, Sheila, Christy and Selena. In 1983 God gave Jerry and Vivian the wonderful blessing of raising their nephew Jack and it added to their growing family. He spent lots of time with his children and took them on yearly beach trips to Kure Beach. His joy was even added to more when the grandchildren Joey, Kaylee, Anna, Jenna and Micah started arriving and he was totally excited over God's blessings upon his family.
He gave his heart to Jesus Christ in 1968. From that moment he was sold out to Christ and it showed in everything he did. He served as a deacon and elder at Ridge Baptist Church and United Baptist Church. In 1986, God lead him and his family to New Covenant Church, where he felt he was home. He served as the usher coordinator and a Board of Trustee member. He was devoted to the church and loved to serve anywhere he was needed. He was a giver at heart. He was kind and always had time to listen and try to help solve a problem.

Jerry loved to watch the Gaither Vocal band, Gunsmoke, Waltons and Bonaza. He loved during the holidays to have homemade fudge and lots of family around. Butch had a love for boxer bulldogs and just being out with his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his three daughters and spouses, Sheila and Joe Mayberry, Christy and Mike Moss and Selena and Craig Bess; special nephew Jack and Kelly Wells; grandchildren, Joey Mayberry, Kaylee, Anna and Jenna Bess and Micah Moss. His brother Bobby Wilson and sister, Faye and Roy Brinkley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In additions to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Donald, Charlie, Kenneth, Michael and Eddie Joe Wilson.

Celebration of life service will be Tuesday, February 2nd at 1:00 pm at New Covenant Church, 631 Efird Street, Gastonia, NC with Dr. John C. Pelonero officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Monday, February 1st at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery with the releasing of the doves.
