Jay Baker
1922-2017
DALLAS – Jay Thomas Baker, 95, died Saturday, December 30, 2017.
Mr. Baker was born September 4, 1922 in High Shoals and was the son of the late Levi and Docia Abernathy Baker.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Edna Summey Baker, and seven sisters and one brother. Jay was the youngest of nine.
Mr. Baker was a graduate of the Class of 1940 of Dallas High School. Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Army – Air Corp, he was a World War II veteran serving on the B 24 "Big Alice from Dallas" as a nose gunner. He flew 52 missions over the European Theatre.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 32 years of dedicated service, and was a lifetime member of Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church, serving as music director for many years.
Mr. Baker is survived by his daughter, Gayle Baker Norman and husband Salvador Norman of Dunwoody, Georgia; nephew, Ronnie Baker and several nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church, 210 Long Creek Church Road, Dallas.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Baker and Reverend Charles Ledford officiating.
Interment will follow at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery
