Gastonia-Jasper Cleveland Costner, 97 passed away peacefully September 1, 2014 at the Robin Johnson House.
He was born in Gaston County on December 6, 1916 to the late John Cleveland and Lula Mae Hawkins Costner.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Costner was a member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia. He retired from Newport News Shipyard in Virginia and enjoyed fishing. He also had been a member of First Baptist Church Suffolk, VA and served as Deacon and was a member of senior citizens choir.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Myrtle Barlow Costner; his children, Jim Costner and wife Ann, Michael Costner and wife Frieda, and Bruce Costner.
Grandchildren Sandra Larson, Matthew, Jason, Madison and Drew Costner; Four Great Grandchildren, Jonam, Sierra, Zachary and Collin
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 5th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Graveside Service to be at 3:00 pm Friday at Burke Memorial Park, 2506 Burke Memorial Park Rd, Morganton, NC
