Concord - James Whitcliff "Whit" King, 58, formerly of Gastonia, passed away on October 17, 2013 at his residence.
He was a native of Gaston County, born February 22, 1955 to James L. King and the late Tommie Tucker King.
He was survived by his father, James L. King of Gastonia, NC
Brothers, Lawrence T. King and Jeffery T. King, both of Gastonia, NC
Sisters, Vickie McDuffie of Belmont, NC
Kimberly K. Smith and husband, Ronald of Clover, SC
Niece, Jennifer M. Clark and husband of Polkville, NC
Nephews, James Adam Smith and wife, of Clover, SC
Jeremy W. Smith and wife, of Clover, SC
and four great nieces.
Whit was a 1973 graduate of Ashbrook High School and worked for several NASCAR teams including; D.K. Ulrich, Eddie Bierschwale, Elmo Langley, Jimmy "Smut" Means and others.
Whit started working with these team in the late 1970's and continued working in the NASCAR industry until his death.
A memorial service will be 6:00 pm Tuesday October 22, 2013 at East Garrison Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Fleming officiating.
