Maiden – James Clifton Adams, 69, passed away peacefully at Catawba Valley Medical Center- Hickory on January 11, 2020.
He was born in Gaston County on September 15, 1950 to the late Thelma Shoats and Helen Louise Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Adams.
James was a veteran of the US Army where he served during Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie Sue Adams of the home; sons, Darren Adams and James C. Adams, Jr. both of Gastonia; daughter, Athenia Lee and husband Anthony of Cherryville; stepchildren, Carletta Farley of Lincolnton; Glenda Birkner and husband Thomas of Charlotte; Freda Blake and husband Shannon of Maiden; and Michael Farley of Newton; 15 grandchildren; sister, Sarah Smith of Gastonia; and nephew, Gustavus Adams and a lifetime friend, Larry Carroll of Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 18th prior to the Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 pm at Christ Community Baptist Church, 1128 N. Ransom Street, Gastonia, NC with Reverend Ronald Harbinson officiating. Military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church Food Ministry c/o Christ Community Baptist Church, 1128 N. Ransom Street, Gastonia, NC 28052.
