Coach Jack Huss
1917-2016
Cramerton - Coach Claude Benjamin "Jack" Huss, 98, formerly of Cramerton died on July 19, 2016 at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh.
He was born on July 29, 1917 in Cherryville, North Carolina to the late Adolphus Hoke Huss and Mary Luola Stroup Huss. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Witherspoon Huss, who he met when they were students at Lenoir-Rhyne College. Jack was also preceded in death by his sister, Marie Huss, and his brothers Clyde Huss, Hunter Huss, Paul Huss, Tom Huss, Dorus Huss.
Mr. Huss graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1938 and received his Master's degree from UNC-Charlotte. He taught at Cramerton High School where he also coached football and basketball. His teams won two state basketball championships in the 1940's. Coach Huss was inducted into the Gaston County Sports Hall of Fame in 1977. At his retirement in 1978 he was the principal at Cramerton Middle School.
Coach Huss is survived by his son John E. Huss and wife Amy of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday at First Baptist Church, 235 8th Avenue, Cramerton, NC.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, Cramerton, NC with Dr. David B Julen and Reverend Sammy Oxendine officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Matthew Section, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC. A reception for family and friends will follow the graveside service at the Hudson Building at First Baptist Church, Cramerton.
A Celebration of life service will be July 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh with Chaplain Phyllis Mayo officiating.
Pallbearers will be Art Shoemaker, David Starrett, Rhett Cozart, Ted Reese, Don Fletcher and W.T. Queen.
Honorary Pallbearers will be former athletes and coaches
