Gastonia - Richard Hunter Craig, 86, entered into Heaven on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. Hunter was born in Gastonia and was the son of the late Joseph Hunter and Mabel Price Craig.
Hunter was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He is a member of East Baptist Church, former member of the American Legion Post #23.
Hunter loved to work in his yard and he was the community "Handy Man". He was a "Computer Guru" and loved to show his computer skills to everyone. He loved his family, friends and was always a "helper" to everyone. He had a kind and generous heart, a very mild and meek Gentleman. He adored his grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits.
Hunter leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Diane Knox of Gastonia; sister, Hilda Craig Lowery of Gastonia; brother, Eddie Craig of Gastonia; three grandchildren, Shanna Sensing and husband Scott of Thomasville, North Carolina, Dr. Craig Knox and wife Tina of Raleigh, David Craig of New York, New York; three great grandchildren, Jaken Sensing, Wills Sensing, Meah Sensing and special friend, Mark Knox.
The family will receive family and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28th at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Parker officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors by the North Carolina National Guard and Gaston Honor Guard with the Releasing of the Doves.
Hunter was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 65 years, Mary Frances Moore Craig; son, Joseph Michael Craig; brother, Gene Craig; two sisters, Vivian Harmon, Ann Martin.
