Henry "Sam" Clay Moffett

Henry "Sam" Clay Moffett, a cherished soul born on November 4, 1938, in Henderson County, North Carolina, departed this world on February 2, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his beloved family. Sam leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community.

A devoted husband for over 60 years, Sam's love for his wife, Sue Huss Moffett, was evident in every aspect of their life together. The bond they shared was not just that of husband and wife; it was a partnership built on mutual respect, support, and a profound love that served as the foundation for their family. He was a proud father to his sons, David Allen Moffett (Catherine) and Robert Andrew Moffett (Angela). Together with their spouses, carried forward the values instilled by their father, ensuring that Sam's love and guidance lived on through them.

Sam's joy extended to his grandchildren, Emily Moffett, Jonathan Buchanan, and Faith Patrick, who knew him as the loving grandfather always ready with a smile, a story, or a helping hand. He found immense happiness in the presence of his great-grandchildren, Andrew Patrick and Julian Buchanan, lighting up as they would come to visit. His family was his greatest pride, and he had a unique way of making each member feel special and cherished.

A man of deep faith, Sam was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he volunteered his time generously, contributing to many committees and offering his support to countless families in need. His selfless nature was a testament to his character, reflecting the love and devotion he preached through his actions.

Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his life, shaping him into the dedicated family man he would become.

He is survived by his loving wife, the pillars of his family, Sue Huss Moffett; David Allen Moffett (Catherine) and Robert Andrew Moffett (Angela); grandchildren, Emily Moffett, Jonathan Buchanan, and Faith Patrick; his great grandchildren, Andrew Patrick and Julian Buchanan; and his brother, Joe Moffitt (Billie). He joins in eternal rest with his parents, Thomas Houston Moffitt and Dovie Williamson Moffitt, as well as his siblings, Eva Coley, Susie McSwain, Velvie Jones, Thomas Moffitt, and Bill Moffitt, whose spirits he will undoubtedly comfort in their reunion.
