Gastonia- Harvey Lee "Mule Man" Beaty, 83, of 3203 Beaty Road left this earth peacefully on May 18, 2016 surrounded by his family and in the devoted, loving care of hospice at the Robin Johnson House.

He was born in Gaston County on July 7, 1932 to the late Bert and Jennie Hill Beaty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Sims Beaty; son, Gregory Lee Beaty, brothers, Robert, David and George Neal Beaty; sister, Frances Beaty

Harvey was a veteran of the US Marine Corps for which he served in the Korean War. He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Harvey worked as a maintenance mechanic at Freightliner, Mt. Holly, where he later retired after many years of dedicated service. Harvey the "Mule Man" was known for his buggy cart and Mules around town. His greatest love was riding his buggy everywhere in Gaston County. On many occasions you were likely to see them on a trip to Bojangles or just out for an afternoon stroll. He loved working outside, tending his garden and fields where his mules' grazed. He was the master of the art of "piddling." Harvey was a kind-hearted generous man who never met a stranger and always managed to see the best in others. Harvey will be remembered for his sense of humor and his fun-loving approach to life. For all that knew Harvey, traveling down Beaty Road will evoke a flood of memories for years to come.

Left to cherish his memories include his daughter, Susan Beaty Teague; grandchildren, Devon Wayne Teague and Caitlin Elizabeth Teague; his loyal Mules, "Strawberry, Plum, Kate, Festus, Tommy and Polly" and too many friends to mention

The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Robin Johnson for their compassionate care for Harvey.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, 5323 Union Road, Gastonia, NC 28056 with Reverend Richard Brown officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Pack, Adam Clemmons, Barth Hoffman, Brett Dye, Tommy Hoffman and Gary McCasslin and his loyal sidekicks "Tommy and Polly"

Honorary Pallbearers will be Lea Morris, Renee Hamby, Dale Ward, Charlie Womack and Eddie Roseboro.

Interment will follow at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
