Gordon Claywell Lemmons

Gordon Claywell Lemmons, 91, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Swain County on September 27, 1932 to the late John C. Lemmons and Irene Truelove Lemmons. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, JoAnn Lemmons; son, Ricky Lemmons; his great-grandson, Benjamin; brother, Turner Lemmons; and his sisters, Desi Lemmons and Anne Willis.

Gordon was raised in a family of woodworkers and built many pieces of furniture, in addition to his home. His upbringing made him a lifelong learner  who loved to tinker and build things. He was a licensed electrical contractor and owner of Lemmons Electric. Gordon was an avid gardener and raised many gardens. He gave away so much of what he grew to those in need. As evident by his love of gardening, he loved the outdoors  and being outside in nature. He was also a HAM Radio operator, call letters WB4LQS. Being a loving and caring man, he always championed the underdog, standing up for those who were often overlooked.

Most of all he adored his late wife, JoAnn and spoiled his family. He leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Walker (Howard); grandchildren, Kelly Lawniczak (Ben) and Holly Walker; and great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Asa, and Jesse.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery 251 Olney Church Road, Gastonia, NC 28056,
